Cold season is here. Temperatures are dropping, kids are in school, we are all spending more time indoors with less ventilation. Aside from washing your hands and getting enough sleep what else can you do? Preventatively I have a few tricks up my sleeve.
Mushrooms contain a type of polysaccharide called beta glucan. Beta Glucan is said to be able to “activate” the immune system. This could give your immune system the help it needs to prevent infections. Beta Glucan allows your white blood cells to be highly prepared and ready for any invading attackers.
Vit. D boots and supports the immune system. It also is essential in the life cycle of all cells. You need those cells to prevent or fight off invading viruses.
Fresh Herbs offer a broad spectrum of vitamins and minerals but paired with lemon, ginger, honey, or used as a tea can be a great tool to prevent or help fight colds.
Elderberry Syrup or Tincture has virus-fighting, immune-stimulating, and anti-inflammatory effects. Elderberries have been used for centuries and are safe for children. My children take a tincture daily! Be aware of the addition of echinacea to elderberry syrups, echinacea should not be taken by children daily.
Citrus Fruit may not PREVENT the cold ( research says) but they can reduce the duration of a cold and the symptoms. I still think citrus fruit is a great preventative tool and it is nutritionally solid so why not.
