Red Kale Chips

 

Simple and easy 

Not filled with rancid oils or fried.

Nutritious and fun!

You can use any kind of kale. My local market had beautiful red kale. Wash the kale well. Take the fibrous stem from the middle of the leaf out. You can cut the leaf into large bite size pieces ( they will shrink!!!). After dried with a towel, place kale in a large bowl and pour 1-2 tablespoons of cold pressed olive oil ( or oil of choice ) over your kale and massage into all the leaves evenly. Sprinkle with salt. I also used Bragg Nutritional Yeast which adds a cheesy flavor and lots of B vitamins! I used my Ronco dehydrator because it dries with very little heat and keeps the integrity of the oil. You can easily use an oven at the lowest setting but with conventional ovens, you can usually only go as low as 170 degrees. You will need to watch the kale closely so it does not burn. In my dehydrator, it took about four hours. In the oven, I would start checking the kale after 20 minutes and taste test every 5 minutes.  All ovens cook a little differently.

 

 

The final product was a dark purple-green!
