Cold & Flu Season

Cold and flu season is among us and I am determined to avoid it or shorten the duration if possible. I make a large batch of Master Tonic *for the season. I decided to juice ginger and lemon to keep in the fridge to add to my daily shots of master tonic, to hot tea and bubbly water.  I take a daily dose, a shot glass full, of my master tonic. When I feel like I may be coming down with something I begin to take a shot hourly or at minimum three times daily until I feel better. If I do come down with a cold I continue to take several times a day. With the flu, it is a bit more difficult to consume the master tonic since often the symptoms are nausea and loss of appetite so it is likely you won’t be able to continue taking the master tonic.

I have a Breville Juicer and I juiced two lemons and 8 inches of ginger (skin on both but well washed). I keep it in a glass jar in our fridge for a week to ten days. I add a teaspoon or two when I take my master tonic shots. I do this for a few reasons, one it adds a lot of flavors, helps my stomach to produce more stomach acid and increase the efficiency of my digestion, and the ginger helps to soothe my intestines. Not to mention that lemons and ginger have a long list of nutritional benefits and nutrients.

*The link above to Master Tonic recipe publish a while back includes peppers. If you are paleo, on a reset protocol, or sensitive to nightshades then feel free to leave out the peppers.
